„Sleepless Nights“ – Monochromatic Moments in Venice Beach by Van Styles
Just have a look + Enjoy:
With Daylight savings recently ending my sleeping schedule has totally gone to shit. I know I can be a bit of an early bird, normally getting up between 5 and 6 a.m. This usually would never effect me but now that it gets dark at 5:00 p.m. it feels a lot more like 8:00 p.m. and so on and so on. I found myself falling into a pattern of going to sleep by 9 and then waking up around 2 a.m. and not being able to fall back asleep for another few hours. Usually sitting awake and binge watching random documentaries on Netflix I felt there was probably something better I could do with this time. So one night I decided to get up, get dressed, grab my camera and head down to Venice. I arrived at the pier around 3:00 a.m. With only a few souls out and about (they seemed like they had just left a bar after last call) I decided to start there and work my way up the boardwalk. Having frequented Venice since I was a teenager to go skating in the pits it has always been a place of constant foot traffic since I can remember. From tourists to locals to the vendors making an honest living selling their art or doing performances Venice is always booming. To have the opportunity to walk the board walk and not see anyone was surreal but enjoyable. The peacefulness was well accepted. I didn’t really have a photographic agenda in mind other than just making pictures of what caught my attention. This exercise definitely serves as a reminder that there are bette things we all can probably doing with our time then staring at a screen. Wether it is Netflix or social media, put it down and go outside and create. Doesn’t matter if it is 3 in the morning or the afternoon. Time is what you make of it. – Van Styles
